Celine is a Paris-based concern founded in 1947
as a children's shoe store. In 1950's, it expanded it's product lines
to leather goods and accessories including perfume and cologne. In the
1960's, Celine started offering womens ready-to-wear and established
retail stores around the world during the 1970's.
Celine was purchased by LVMH and became part of it's luxury goods companies along with Dior, Givenchy, and others.
In 1997, Michael Kors was hired as Chief Designer and promoted to Creative Director in 1999.
In
2000 Celine opened a 2400 square ft. store on Madison Avenue, in New
York. In May 2001 it opened a super-chic store on Bond Street, in
London. Kors brought a splash of ethnic colour and handwork from India.
He chose a vibrant palette of hot pink and orange on white, green and
spice colours.
Michael Kors showed the Celine Fall/Winter 2003 collection during Paris Fashion Week in March 2003. |
